Universal Armature Machine
The VIKRANT universal machine has the capacity to hold traction motor and generator armatures. This multipurpose machine can be equipped with attachments to perform commutator turning, armature banding, automatic mica undercutting, brush deburring, commutator grinding, coil cut-off and TiG welding of the coil leading to the riser. The VIKRANT features dual controls on headstock and carriage; hardened, round bedways; an air-operated tension device with separate wire and tape pulleys; two sensors on automatic undercutter; and other features designed for efficient repair of armatures, including a reroll tension device to pull down coils. The smaller VUM universal machine can be used for traction motor armatures. Machines are useful in high-production shops where operations can be combined to save handling time and low-production shops where they serve as the centerpiece of the shop for armature repairs, the company says.
